The Baker at Grand Coastal Hotel is responsible for preparing, baking, and presenting a wide range of high-quality baked goods to support the hotel’s dining services. This role combines traditional techniques with innovation, ensuring freshness, consistency, and visual appeal in all pastries, breads, and desserts. The Baker maintains hygiene and safety standards, collaborates with the kitchen team for smooth service delivery, and contributes to an exceptional guest dining experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare and bake a variety of baked goods including:
Breads, rolls, breakfast pastries, cakes, cookies, pies, and plated desserts
Decorate and present baked goods in a creative and visually appealing manner
Innovate and test new recipes based on seasonal ingredients, guest feedback, and culinary trends
Monitor and manage inventory of ingredients and supplies; notify chef when items need replenishing
Operate and maintain baking equipment such as mixers, ovens, and dough sheeters
Adhere strictly to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene protocols in all baking areas
Coordinate with the kitchen team to meet production timelines and daily service demands
Assist with custom orders and special events, including cakes or themed dessert presentations
Contribute to waste reduction by using leftover ingredients creatively and responsibly
Perform any other duties assigned within the scope of the role
Qualifications Required
Certification in baking, culinary arts, or pastry preparation preferred
Minimum 1–3 years of experience as a professional baker in a hotel, restaurant, or bakery setting
Proficiency in a range of baking techniques and equipment operation
Understanding of ingredient functions, recipe scaling, and baking science
Strong time management and organizational skills in a high-demand kitchen environment
High attention to detail for taste, texture, and presentation consistency
Creative mindset with a passion for experimenting with flavors and techniques
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to multitask and meet production deadlines under pressure
Punctuality, discipline, and commitment to quality and cleanliness
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods (6–8 hours)
Ability to lift and carry heavy items such as flour sacks or large trays (up to 50 lbs)
Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment with frequent movement, bending, and lifting
Early morning start times required
Must be available to work weekends and public holidays as per the hotel schedule
